SPIRITUALISM MEANS UNDERSTANDING THE SELF AND GOD

HARE KRISHNA Friends.

As per Tantra or Kundalini Chakra Yoga  literatures, exploring the self or our soul is the most important. They do not refer to knowing God. These scriptures also say that:

1.     There are seven basic  energy centers in the body.

2.     Besides the above, there are several other minor or secondary energy centers or chakras.

As per Tantra literatures, the basic or fundamental energy in our body lies stored in the Muladhara Chakra. From the Muladhara Chakra (lying coiled at the base of the spine) the energy rises and passes through the seven main chakras, namely Svadishtana, Manipura, Anahata, Vishuddi, Agya and finally the Sahasrara Chakra. It however does not touch all the other minor chakras located all over our body. Another point to note is that this energy rises upwards towards the top of the head.

Almost all present day Yogis and Tantriks say that the spiritual energy or Kundalini Shakti does not move from the Ajna or the sixth Chakra to the the Sahasrara or seventh Chakra. Yet they conclude that the Sahasrara Chakra is  the last of the seven major chakras. Some even say that there is nothing like the Sahasrara chakra that exists in our body.

The question naturally arises -  how and why did the scriptures identify the seventh main chakra and called it the Sahasrara Chakra? Why are the present day Yogis or Tantriks not able to identify the Sahasrara Chakra? As they are unable to understand this, they conclude that the Sahasrara Chakra exists only for namesake. Their spiritual possibilities therefore has not been explored entirely for whatever reasons.

Its not merely the Sahasrara Chakra that the modern Tantriks are not able to identify. In fact none of them  suggest a way to cleanse the chakras or regions below the muladhara chakra i.e. our thighs, feet, hands, fingers, palms, face, ears, eyes and other parts of our body above the agna chakra. There are so many chakras in our body. They are also required to be cleansed in the spiritual path. As an experienced  Yogi he is supposed to cleanse the  entire body including his senses and his mind. But this has not happened though he swears by  Tantra or Kundalini Yoga. They also avoid talking about  the spiritual energy passing  from the Muladhara  chakra through the Sushumna Nadi. Sushumna Nadi is one of the three vital nadis (Ida and Pingala being the other two nadis) through which the Kundalini energy passes.

In order to ensure cleansing of our entire body, including our  senses and mind  are cleansed, the Vedic scriptures and the Bhagavad Gita prescribe Bhakti Yoga or devotion to Lord Krishna and his devotees. The scriptures say that by following Bhakti Yoga, one will able to pierce the Shahasrara Chakra from the above ( as against piecing from within our body that happens under Tantra or Kundalini Yoga) and  spiritualise  our whole body. This is done by the Supreme Krishna Consciousness or the Divine blessings. Not without reasons do we seek the Divine Blessings of the elderly and the Spiritual masters.

The relationship and pathway between the Ajna chakra and the Sahasara Chakra that could not be established through Tantra or Kundalini Yoga gets accomplished under Bhakti Yoga. Thus Bhakti Yoga establishes the existence of the Sahasrara Chakra at the top of our head. It also establishes that there is a Supreme God controlling the internal and external Consciousness and also their energies. This consciousness also does the spiritual cleansing of the entire body, senses, mind, our consciousness and the consciousness’ energy.

There is another very major chakra beyond the Sahasrara chakra that gets cleansed  through Bhakti Yoga. This region is entirely ignored under Tantra Yoga. This is the region commonly covered with a tuft of hair by orthodox Hindu men called a shendi, chotti, kudumi or a shikha. This is also  the region where women tie their hair knot. This region is believed to be highly sensitive and needs to be protected at all times. An injury to this spot can kill a person if the region does not have proper protection. So our elders  always kept this region   protected  with their own hair. The chakra in this region also gets cleansed through Bhakti Yoga.

Because Tantriks or Kundalini practitioners don’t pursue Bhakti Yoga they are unable to  explore the regions beyond the six major chakras. In all probability they would  have also not explored the Sahasrara Chakra through the Sushumna Nadi or  the other chakras in the body, their senses and their mind. There is much more beyond the Ida and the Pingala Nadi and the six chakras that they frequently write about. A person who does not believe in God will never follow Bhakti Yoga in its true spirit or experience the eternal happiness  associated with Bhakti Yoga. The flow of God’s divine grace or Krishna Consciousness and energy is total in this path. In fact the whole body gets connected and charged.

Present day Tantriks just awaken the Kundalini through the six chakras and deny the existence of the Sahasrara Chakra. Are our scriptures wrong or is it just ignorance? With the limited experience and knowledge they also deny the existence of God or the Supreme Being or say that all living beings are God.

Friends. Not without reason is there is an entire Veda called Samaveda in our divine Vedic scriptures that is dedicated to devotion and prayers. Spiritualism is therefore not restricted to the main chakras of our body. It is all encompassing and total. Its much more than the self. Thorugh Bhakti Yoga alone we will understand what Lord Krishna meant by telling that the whole Universe is Consciousness  or ME.

Under  Kundalini or Chakra meditation we are able to identify the power of energy flowing in our body. Under Bhakti Yoga we are able to identify  Universal Consciousness, inner consciousness, the energy within us and the energy outside. In the process we will be able to identify that we are not the same as God. God is real and much more potent, powerful, benevolent and also malevolent if HE chooses to be.

Hare Krishna
